The Time Traveler’s Wife

I have finally finished reading this book. It’s about 500+pages and worth 22 bucks from Kinokuniya Bookshop.. You can also get this at Times Bookshop but not at Popular.. So the story’s plot to me, is rather old fashioned. I’m sure most of us have already heard or seen a long long time ago about time traveling people. Whether in books or films. Mostly in films, I guess. The HK movie that got me hooked about time traveling was this one staring Tony Leong. He traveled back to the 1950s where he got to know his parents, during their courtship days. He was never on good terms with his dad only after he time traveled and began to know him better. There was this famous phrase that goes, “Ren Ren Wei Wo, Wo Wei Ren Ren…”

Well, this book was about Clare met Henry when Clare was 6 and Henry 36. They got married when Clare was 22 and Henry 30. You should have already guessed how’s the story like. Nothing was really that fascinating to me. But it might be a good effort for a first time novelist, at least the language is fine. Sometimes you got to link the story back and forth, as in some scenes, something happened but Clare knew it and Henry of the future knew it, yet Henry of the present does not know it. When Henry time traveled back historically, there will be 2 Henrys existing at the same time. It sounds pretty strange to me. I can’t get used to the idea that there could be 2 same persons existing in the same time zone. One might belong to the future, but there are indeed 2 live persons you can see at one time.. how strange.. They later got a daughter who is also a time traveler. And in the end, Henry died.. I really don’t get how he died. He time traveled back and got killed. I think I must read those ending pages again as I really don’t understand. This needs some linking.. In general, this is an OK book. But I quite like the language and style though.

I began another book last night. It’s titled “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan”. Sounds cheena? Yes, it’s indeed a cheena book. It talks about a girl, born in the era where foot binding is popular to~~~~ blah blah blah I haven’t got to that point yet as I only read 2 chapters last night. It’s generally talking about her life.. but the footbinding chapter was really gross. The author described rather well. It gave me an eerie feeling.. How could people ever feel that deformed feet of about 7cm long is beautiful?? How could those women endure the pain of footbinding and had to live the rest of their lives as a cripple? Why ancient people got such crazy idea..? I should love my feet cuz at least I can balance well and I am proud to say that I have taken part in running races before… I believe this should be a good book cuz I already felt inspired after last night.. I will continue to read it tonight..!
